Austin Music Awards
The Master Of Ceremonies stepped up to the mic and literally proclaimed, "This next award is for Best Acoustic Guitarist and should perhaps be permanently called "The Monte Montgomery Award", then he
announced Monte Montgomery as the winner. Monte stepped out wearing a green jersey (after all it was St. Patrick's Day and Monte's middle name is Patrick) with a giant white "7" on the front of it
under a black blazer and proceeded to have some fun with the audience questioning whether the award might be the 5th, 6th or could it be the 7th Year In A Row? as he opened his blazer revealing the huge
7. The crowd cheered and Monte proceeded to thank his fans for their ongoing support. Monte then turned everyone's attention to Terry Likona and Austin City Limits publicly thanking Terry for
inviting him to appear on the nationally televised show a few years back and for all the support he gives to local Austin musicians.
The fact that Monte's "The Champ" when it comes to acoustic guitar is a well-known fact not only in Austin but also throughout the country. In the past few years countless articles have been written
by "those in the know" proclaiming that Monte is "redefining acoustic guitar", naming him "The Acoustic Jimi Hendrix", "The Evel Knievel of Guitar" and "Six Strings Attached To Dynamite". In this
month's issue of Guitar Player Magazine, Monte is listed as one of "The Top 50 All Time Greatest Guitarists". For the record, Monte made this prestigious list solely because of his pure and
extraordinary guitar skills without any of the typical "hype" which is usually slung around upcoming artists. Imagine that, Monte's recognition stems from his hard work and grueling tours across the
U.S. over the last five years, playing his heart out in small bars, rock clubs and town halls earning each devoted fan one at a time. And it must be known that Monte has also been a great Ambassador
for Austin, Texas spreading the word about the Austin music scene at every show.
Monte's mind-boggling guitar work frequently eclipses his exceptional talent as a singer songwriter as he continues breaking new ground with every performance, introducing freshly written songs constantly
sowing fertile seeds filled with pure and complete musical genius. My advice to you if you haven't experienced one of Monte's amazing live shows is to catch him soon and see for yourself first hand
what legends are made of and how it's done! You'll truly be amazed. Once planted these seeds will surely grow and one day it'll all be history, after all, that's usually How The Story Goes.
